BASEL is global regulatory standards for banks. The purpose of the standards is to ensure adequacy and liquidity. BASEL’s importance of course became highlighted during the recent banking debacles in 2008. Due to this, the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision went back to rectify the deficiencies in the accords.

It has determined that most difficult and most widely used way lawyers find documents, key searching, is missing many relevant documents. The problem with e-discovery relates directly to language itself. According to George Paul, a partner at Lewis and Roca in Phoenix “The big-picture issue is that we are up against a fundamental, philosophical problem,” says Paul. “This is not a computer problem. ... Words don’t stand for behavior, but are elastic and change their meaning depending on their context.”
